BDO what fees do you have to pay?

If you are wondering what fees are associated with BDO, the most important answer is that in the BDO register itself we are primarily talking about registration fee i annual fee, but they do not apply to every entrepreneur entered in the system. Official BDO material indicates that the obligation to pay only applies to selected groups of entrepreneurs and not to all companies dealing with waste or the register itself. It is for this reason that many entrepreneurs mistakenly assume that because they have a BDO number or are considering an entry, they automatically have to prepare for fees. In practice, this must first be established, by what title the company is or is to be entered in the BDO, because only this determines the financial obligation.

Who pays the registration fee and the annual fee at BDO

The official BDO website indicates that only entrepreneurs introducing electrical and electronic equipment, batteries or accumulators, vehicles, packaged products, tyres and lubricating oils, as well as producers, importers and intra-Community purchasers of packaging are subject to the registration and annual fee. In the current BDO registration rules, the catalogue has been further shown to include also the marketers of single-use plastic products, plastic-containing fishing gear and representative entities. This means that not every entity enrolled in BDO for waste management pays a fee - for many companies, the obligation to enrol does not equate to an obligation to pay a registration or annual fee.

How much are the BDO fees and when do you have to pay them

From 1 January 2025, new registration and annual fee rates apply: PLN 200 for micro-entrepreneurs and PLN 800 for other entrepreneurs. The registration fee and the annual fee shall be paid to the account of the marshal's office having jurisdiction over the company's registered office or place of residence, and the account numbers are published on the websites of the relevant offices. In the case of the annual fee, the rule is that it must be paid by the end of February for the year in question, with the annual fee not being paid in the year in which the registration fee has already been paid. In addition, BDO reminds that the registration fee is not paid by an entrepreneur registered under the national eco-management and audit scheme EMAS.

What is the penalty for not paying the BDO fee

From an entrepreneur's perspective, this is the most practical part of the subject, as simply knowing the rate is not enough. Official communications from BDO make it clear that failure to pay will result in the deletion of the entity from the register, which may later give rise to further risks if the company continues to carry out activities requiring registration. Therefore, the topic of BDO fees should not be treated as a minor administrative formality, but as part of the ongoing maintenance of business compliance. In practice, the safe approach looks like this: firstly, determining whether the company belongs to the groups covered by the fee, then verifying the correct rate and paying the fee on time to the account of the relevant Marshal's Office.
